President Trump's Inauguration
Following a historic election victory in November, President Donald J. Trump prepared to reenter the White House. His inauguration occurred on January 20, last Monday, marking the start of the Second Trump Administration. The event occurred inside due to unfavourable weather. In his inaugural address, in many ways akin to his 2017 speech, President Trump emphasised his opinion of a lacking Biden-Harris Administration, the need for American strength, and his perspective of soaring confidence in government following his election.
"[T]he golden age of America begins right now," Mr Trump noted in the beginning of his adress, after the formalities.
An estimated 24.6 million people tuned in live to watch the inauguration, whereas circa 31 million were meant to have seen his first inauguration in 2017 live. Former President Joe Biden enjoyed 33 million viewers. Yet, in both prior instances, the inaugurations occurred outside, giving way to a more captivating spectacle. Nonetheless, the numbers are a displeasure for the president.
"Our sovereignty will be reclaimed. Our safety will be restored. The scales of justice will be rebalanced. The vicious, violent, and unfair weaponization of the Justice Department and our government will end. And our top priority will be to create a nation that is proud, prosperous, and free. America will soon be greater, stronger, and far more exceptional than ever before," President Trump remarked in his adress.

"I felt then and believed even more so now that my life was saved for a reason, I was saved by God to make America great again," President Trump noted
Mr Trump marked his inaugural day with a flurry of executive orders; including an end to birthright citizenship (quickly stuck down by a court for being "blatantly unconstitutional"), the United States exiting the World Health Organisation, the renaming of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, pausing the TikTok ban, and reversing numerous Biden-era executive orders with much more. He has started his tenure with action, that much is undeniable, now the American people stand to the task of judging his policies.
"America's decline is over," Mr Trump commented during the speech.
Liberal Leadership Election
Following Prime Minister Trudeau's resignation, a leadership election was triggered within the Liberal Party of Canada. The race to replace the impactful prime minister against a strong opposition, headed by Pierre Poilievre, and an attacking New Democratic Party, a coalition partner set to withdraw support formally, is a heated affair. Big names including former Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland, whose resignation in December immensely pressured Mr Trudeau, alongside former central banker Mark Carney. Moreover, Liberal House leader Karina Gould has entered the race. An array of candidates have declared yet Chrystia Freeland, Mark Carney, and Karina Gould are viewed as the frontrunners.
